Staying Together… Even When We’re Apart

Let’s face it, the quarantine has kept us separated to the point where we’re starting to forget how it feels to be at an in-person meeting or have a quick chat in the cafeteria without worrying about ourselves and others around us. With a face hidden behind a mask, it’s hard to see even a smile. With the continuous distance, we start to forget who we are, not necessarily as individuals, but as a community. That’s why we at Turvo wanted to do something about it, do our best to keep the team together, even when we have to be apart.

Embracing Fun in the Workplace

Part of our mission through quarantine has been to keep the workplace fun. After all, no one wants to come in to the drudgery of “yet another day” as that mindset quickly leads to stagnation. Instead, we like to look on the brighter side of life. Yes, the quarantine has made a mess of everything, and it is certainly disruptive to the normal hustle and bustle of the workflow, but that doesn’t mean that everything has to be dreary. To combat the isolation blues, our Chief Product Officer Ketan Kharkanis has a weekly happy hour to keep our product team connected and remind us of what we’re working towards together.

Fun is just as important as the work itself, and that’s why Turvo embraces it fully. Not only does it keep us active and engaged, but it helps to bring us together as a team. And consider it this way, when you spend 40 hours of your week away from home, isn’t it better to be closer to those you’re working with? We certainly think so.

Keeping the Ball Rolling

At Turvo, we understand that roadblocks happen. Our goal is to find a way around them. That’s what was so much fun about last week’s happy hour. We put together a claymation video, something many of us had never even considered, let alone attempted, and we managed to do it in a single session. Each of us created a small animated segment and, when linked together, it showed how Turvo progressed despite the obstacles. Not only is this indicative of our goals as a company, but it shows the perseverance of our employees and a dedication to doing the job right for our clients.

“Pottery has been my after-work quarantine hobby for the past few months, and I thought it would be fun to do something clay-based as a team! It was awesome how creative everyone was with their clip, and it was great how the team was up for it, even though it was new for everyone.” –Anastasia Martynovitch, Product Manager.

We’re passionate about our work, supporting our customers’ success …, and we also like to have some fun! The claymation activity was a creative team-building virtual exercise where the PM team had to collaborate and work together to produce one final result. Great video everyone involved! – Kevin Hanley, Human Resources

This was a fun activity, and it was made even more impressive by the fact that we accomplished it in such a short time. For us, working together as a team takes the stage over the typical “committee oversight” that you get with a typical job. What’s more is that we all took a chance and braved the unknown, taking a leap into something new and finding enjoyment in the adventure.

Breaking the Routine

Tired of the “same old same” at work? So were we. That’s why we decided to break out of the box and forge our own path. At Turvo, we are passionate about what we do. We strive to bring out the hidden potential within our clients, just the same as we do for ourselves. We want people who are looking for adventure, for something different and are willing to push themselves to become the best that they can be. Because for us to overhaul a centuries-old system that is the global supply chain it’s going to take a willingness to brave the unknown.
